The Nominations Committee, the only elected committee in AESS, is responsible for proposing a slate of candidates each year for vacant positions. Nominations committee members are expected to network with members to identify prospective board members and officers, so that by early March there are two strong candidates for each open position. Usually this means quarterly check ins and then more focused effort in January and February to produce and vote on a slate of nominees. The Nominations Committee forwards a slate to the Association Board, which has final say on the slate of nominees presented to the members. As established by the AESS by-laws, the Nominations Committee has six elected members and two appointed members. The elected members have staggered two-year positions. The appointed members are the Chair-Elect, who is named by the President-Elect and becomes Chair when the President-Elect becomes President.
