The Antidote: A Novel by Karen Russel. Discussion scheduled for Friday, October 23rd, 1pm (EDT). A note from the Book Club organizer – Recommended by Dr. Laura Hartman of Roanoke, join us for a discussion of The Antidote. I loved Laura’s comments in her recommendations: “(okay full disclosure I listened to it on audiobook while folding laundry and etc.) It’s historical fiction with fantasy thrown in. The book asks (eventually): what if we had used the dust bowl as an opportunity to pause and rethink how we handle the land? It has wonderful insights about native people, settlers from eastern Europe, history, and memory. The whole thing takes place in Nebraska, which I’m sure doesn’t have enough fiction written about it.” ~Lisa Jordan AESS Book Club Coordinator

We are an environmentally-themed book club that aims to explore a wide range of resources (including – but not limited to books!), enhance and deepen our understanding of the causes, impacts, and solutions to environmental issues, and foster community within AESS.
