For 2017, AESS is partnering with the University of Arizona. Our host site boasts a LEED-platinum certified space. The Environmental and Natural Resources 2 (ENR2) building design was inspired by the sustainable features of a slot canyon, a unique geologic feature in the desert Southwest, and designed to reflect the environmental mission of UA faculty, staff and students. The most sustainable building on campus includes a central canyon that integrates exterior circulation and interaction space; an underground 55-thousand-gallon water reservoir to collect rainwater for use in the building’s landscape irrigation; and an HVAC system that uses overhead induction coils, known as “active” chilled beams, that help to significantly reduce power usage.
