The Journal of Environmental Studies and Sciences (JESS), the flagship journal for the Association for Environmental Studies and Sciences, is seeking additional associate editors in the areas listed below. The new associate editors will join an existing team with the mission of publishing diverse, interdisciplinary manuscripts that explore the Environmental Studies and Sciences. As the field is constantly growing and evolving, priority will be given to scholars currently underrepresented amongst the Editors or the Editorial Board and to researchers whose work is informed by critical perspectives.   

Agriculture, agroforestry, and/or aquaculture

Conservation biology 

Energy policy, renewable energy, energy systems governance   

Environmental economics

Environmental education

Environmental history

Environmental justice (2 positions)

Environmental philosophy (emphasis religious studies)

Food studies/critical food studies 

Forestry, forest systems governance, sustainable forestry

Human-animal studies (environmental humanities or social sciences perspective)

Native American and Indigenous Studies

Natural resources governance

Public/environmental health (2 positions)

Quantitative methodologies (2 positions) (e.g., SEM, HLM, regression analysis) 


Water systems/water governance

JESS provides a peer-reviewed, academically rigorous and professionally recognized venue for the publication of explicitly interdisciplinary environmental research, policy analysis and advocacy, educational discourse and other related matters. Contributions are welcome from any discipline or combination of disciplines, any vocation or professional affiliation, any national, ethnic or cultural background. Articles may relate to any historical and global setting. These contributions should explicitly involve multi-disciplinary or trans-disciplinary aspects of environmental issues; and identify the way(s) in which the work will contribute to environmental research, policy making, advocacy, education, or related activities.

Expressions of interest, including a brief CV and a short (1 page) cover letter outlining your qualifications for the position, should be sent to JESS’s Editor-in-Chief, Teresa Lloro, Ph.D. (, no later than February 13th, 2021. Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis and selected associate editors can begin their position upon selection.

Responsibilities entail handling approximately 12 manuscripts annually from submission through final acceptance. Initial appointment will be for two years with possibility for renewal thereafter.
